The European Researchers' Night (NEI) for the 2024-2025 biennium, with the acronym EU-EMBRACES (Empowering Minds: Boosting Research in Citizen Engagement and Schools), offers a unique opportunity for the public to discover the work of scientists and the impact of their work on society.
The project is based on EU-Missions, namely climate change adaptation, health (cancer), ocean and water conservation, soils and the creation of smart cities with a neutro-climate impact.
NEI is an event that takes place in various cities across Europe, with the aim of bringing citizens closer to science and researchers.
In Portugal, NEI is taking place in 9 locations: Alviela, Bragança, Braga, Porto, Vila Nova de Foz Côa, Lisbon, Oeiras, Estremoz and Lagos.

ANTHROPOCENE, A GREAT STORY!
To what extent has the action of man altered the natural balance of our planet in such an intense and lasting way that we have entered a new geological epoch... the Anthropocene?
This is not an easy subject to answer and goes far beyond CLIMATE CHANGE. The ANTHROPOCENE is a subject whose understanding requires the crossing of KNOWLEDGE from various areas... A FUNDAMENTAL topic at a time when we urgently need to rethink the way we live... An URGENT topic... a VERY URGENT one!!!
Take part in NEI and you will understand this GREAT STORY!

PEDALING ENERGY (ENERGIA A PEDALAR)
In an interactive and fun way, "Energia a Pedalar" simulates the interaction between renewable energy sources, such as wind and water, and the equipment that generates these energies (solar power plants, wind power plants, etc.), using simple and dynamic learning methods, with the practical use of bicycles and environmental awareness “minds on” and “feet on”.
June 1st: TEDxAveiro

NEI Event 2024 - September 27th
A day of many activities where stories of dinosaurs... iguanas and chickens, intersect with exhibitions where rice, rocks and works of art come together... with talks with researchers... with films... and... much more...
A number of initiatives that will lead us to reflect on the times in which we live...
Exhibition at the Ciência Viva, Science Museum in Estremoz
Homo a maker of objects... An apparently strange collection, but... essential if we are to understand what brought us to what some call the ANTHROPOCENE.
For nearly 2.6 million years, we and our Homo ancestors have been evolving on Earth, demonstrating an enormous capacity for creating objects and transforming the space in which we live. An astonishing evolution that has taken us from the crude tools of the Paleolithic to space travel... but also to the internet, or artificial intelligence... An evolution that will undoubtedly take us to a future that is difficult to imagine at present, as this has been a constant throughout evolution. A future that has been the result of the accumulation of individual and/or collective efforts, sometimes thought out, sometimes the result of chance. A future that is often feared, because it is not easy to face the unknown and there will always be someone who cries wolf...
What promises of kingdoms and mines
Of gold, what will you promise so easily?
What fame will you promise? What stories?
What triumphs, what applause, what victories?
The Lusíadas, canto IV
Our present therefore appears as the accumulation of all these past events that have left a varied legacy of objects that have been accumulating at a rate that seems impossible to sustain, and with which we have been transforming our planet. A transformation so intense that we are beginning to realize that we will find it difficult to live here.
