The European Researchers' Night (NEI) for the 2024-2025 biennium, with the acronym EU-EMBRACES (Empowering Minds: Boosting Research in Citizen Engagement and Schools), offers a unique opportunity for the public to discover the work of scientists and the impact of their work on society.

The project is based on EU-Missions, namely climate change adaptation, health (cancer), ocean and water conservation, soils and the creation of smart cities with a neutro-climate impact.

NEI is an event that takes place in various cities across Europe, with the aim of bringing citizens closer to science and researchers.

In Portugal, NEI is taking place in 9 locations: Alviela, Bragança, Braga, Porto, Vila Nova de Foz Côa, Lisbon, Oeiras, Estremoz and Lagos.

ANTHROPOCENE, A GREAT STORY!

To what extent has the action of man altered the natural balance of our planet in such an intense and lasting way that we have entered a new geological epoch... the Anthropocene?

This is not an easy subject to answer and goes far beyond CLIMATE CHANGE. The ANTHROPOCENE is a subject whose understanding requires the crossing of KNOWLEDGE from various areas... A FUNDAMENTAL topic at a time when we urgently need to rethink the way we live... An URGENT topic... a VERY URGENT one!!!

Take part in NEI and you will understand this GREAT STORY!

Compreender melhor a luz... as cores e... nós!!!

Better understanding of light... colors and... us!!!

by Rui Dias, University of Évora, Estremoz Ciência Viva Center

We're so used to seeing objects and their colors that we don't even think about what actually happens...

But maybe things are more complicated than they seem. Is it possible that objects don't have colors after all?

And if so, what are the implications of this in terms of the evolution of living beings?

In this informal talk, we'll look at the evolution of living beings from a slightly different perspective than the usual biology or paleontology approach.
