Target Audience

CCVEstremoz, through its team and respective Science Communicators, is able to

to receive any type of public, from 2 to 102 years old… Children, youth, adults, seniors. It even has a set of projects and activities especially aimed at more focused audiences… from preschool to university, groups with special educational needs, seniors, among others.

There are many ways to look at the results of the 18 years of activity of the Estremoz Ciência Viva Science Centre (CCVEstremoz). After all, as Anaïs Nin said, “We don’t see things as they are; we see things as we are.”

One possibility is to try to understand the audiences we have worked with…

Over those 18 years, our facility in the city of Estremoz was visited by more than 220,000 people…

Over those 18 years, more than 750,000 people took part in all our activities…

FROM ESTREMOZ TO THE CAPITAL

In terms of visitor numbers, this puts us on a par with some museums in the capital…

VISITOR PROFILE

Located in a small town in a sparsely populated inland region, the more than 220,000 visitors who have visited CCVEstremoz to date have only been possible because of the centre’s strong presence within the school community, which accounts for more than 60% of its visitors.

This is due to its ability to communicate up-to-date scientific concepts in scientifically rigorous language adapted to different levels of education.

This strong connection with school groups explains the seasonal pattern in visitor numbers at CCVEstremoz…

WHAT ARE THE EDUCATIONAL LEVELS?

This diversity of approaches is reflected in a fairly even distribution across the various educational levels, which has remained consistent since CCVEstremoz opened. Broadly speaking, the figures are 35.5% secondary-school students, 36.0% students in the 2nd and 3rd cycles of basic education, and 28.0% children in preschool and the 1st cycle of basic education, with a negligible percentage (i.e. 0.5%) from higher education.

WHERE DO THE SCHOOLS COME FROM?

Demand for CCVEstremoz from schools is not limited to its local catchment area. While 49.1% of school groups come from the Alentejo region, 36.6% come from Greater Lisbon and 14.2% from the rest of the country.
